Lincoln: At the forefront of radical mental health practice

Presented by Becky Goddard, Rob Goemans and Nigel Horner.

Early in the 19th century, the Lincoln Lunatic Asylum (later known as the Lawn Hospital) was the first institution in the country to treat mental health patients without recourse to mechanical restraint.  Becky, Rob and Nigel give an illustrated talk on this change in practice which became famous throughout the world of medicine and will pose some thoughts about why such a remarkable change in thinking took place here.
